Arvada Electrician License CO: Registration and Exam

Arvada publishes something most Colorado cities do not: a written policy on how it checks state electrical licenses before issuing a permit. That policy is the clearest statement of the local rule here, and it is the whole of what the city publishes about electrical work.

The city's own policy, in its own words

The City of Arvada publishes a Building Inspection Policy On Contemporaneous Review of State of Colorado Issued Electrical Licenses. Here is what it says.

The City verifies that both the electrical contractor license and master electrician license are current and up-to-date with the State Electrical Board before either permit type is issued.

The electrical contractor must provide a copy of his or her State-issued electrical contractor license as well as a copy of his or her master electrician license as a condition of application.

And the contractor must hold a current electrical contractor license issued by the State Electrical Board and have registered with the City of Arvada as an electrical contractor.

So there is an Arvada registration, and it sits on top of a state check that happens at the permit counter.

Why Arvada checks at the counter

The state asks it to. The Board's contemporaneous review page says the state developed procedures for conducting contemporaneous reviews to ensure consistent, timely and efficient enforcement of Colorado's electrical licensure and apprenticeship requirements.

It adds that any county, city, town, or qualified state institution of higher education conducting their own inspections must ensure these reviews of electricians and electrical apprentices are compliant with state electrical licensing and apprentice ratio laws. The page cites SB 19-156 for electrical.

Arvada's policy is that requirement written down. It also means the apprentice ratio is being checked locally: no more than three apprentices per licensed electrician at a job site under C.R.S. 12-115-115(1).

What Arvada does not publish

No electrical registration fee appears on any Arvada page we read.

The city's general contractor license categories page carries no electrical category and no electrical detail, which is why the policy document above is the source that matters here. A separate building contractor page exists and we did not fetch it.

So the fee, the renewal term and the form itself are unconfirmed. Call the city before you plan around a cost.

No apprenticeship sponsor with an Arvada address

We found none. The nearest options run in three directions.

Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, at 13300 W. 6th Ave., which publishes five electrical degrees and a certificate titled 288 Hour Journeyman License at 20 credits.

IEC Rocky Mountain at 11429 Pearl St., Northglenn, CO 80233, whose published program is four years, 8,000 on-the-job hours and at least 288 classroom hours, with classes once a week from 5:30pm.

And the Denver Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee at 5610 Logan St, Denver, CO 80216, whose applications close September 30, 2026 and reopen February 1, 2027 with a $35.00 non-refundable fee.

Warren Tech North has no electrical program

Warren Tech North Campus is at 11325 Allendale Drive, Arvada, CO 80004, and it is the obvious local trades school to check.

Its published programs are Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services, Forensic Science, Introduction to Nursing, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

No electrical program. The wider Warren Tech list across three campuses carries 40 programs and none of them is electrical, with Building Trades at the Central Campus in Lakewood as the nearest neighbour.

The state ladder, which is the actual work

Arvada's policy checks two state credentials, so both have to exist before the city sees you.

The master electrician license comes from one of four routes: 10,000 hours in no less than 5 years, an electrical engineering degree with 2,000 hours, a trade school or community college qualification with 8,000 hours, or 2,000 hours beyond the journeyman requirements including planning, layout and supervision.

The electrical contractor registration then has to hold or employ that master as the responsible individual, on an Acknowledgement of Responsibility form signed by the owner and the master.

Where Arvada candidates test

There is no PSI site in Arvada. The nearest are Denver (Wheat Ridge) at 4891 Independence St #220, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, and Broomfield at McAir Aviation, 11945 Airport Way, Jeffco Airport, Broomfield, CO 80021.

Wheat Ridge is the closer of the two for most Arvada addresses, and Broomfield sits inside an airport facility.
